Sideline 2: Baguio Food Crawler (4th Stop)

Baguio Food Crawler (4th Stop)

HR duties led me to the Summer Capital of the Philippines, Baguio City last April 24, 2015. After accomplishing my HR mission, I had an ample time for a quick sideline: Food Crawler :)

4th Stop: 50’s DINER

This legit 50’s, American-inspired restaurant in Baguio has two branches. One located in Military Cut and the other one along Cabinet Hill (near DOLE – CAR). The latter branch is the one I visited since it’s just walking distance from the hotel I was staying.

Diners of different nationalities.
50’s Diner is a very busy restaurant. There seems a non-stop arrival of guests who wanted to have their meals here. Once one group of foodies finishes their meals, another group of customers would come in. Most of the time, all the tables inside the restaurant are occupied. Their crew has to set up tables outside to accommodate more coming guests.

Upon entering this restaurant, one would already feel the 50’s vibe. From the mounted framed pictures and posters of 50’s Hollywood stars and movies to the background music and ceiling lighting: everything is 50s. The restaurant even has an additional attraction outside: a 50’s inspired car.

Even the uniform of the staff is congruent with their theme. Lovely!
Driving, 50's Swag!
There’s a long list of meals you can choose from. They also offer group and family meals.

Here are some of the food that 50’s Diner takes pride:

Eat like a Gangsta for only 155php.
        1. Gangsta Gangsta: This overloaded meal is composed of two pieces fried chicken roll, one big chunk of lightly grilled pork chop, vegetables sautéed in oyster sauce, sunny side up egg, one piece fried chicken and plain rice. Yes, that many items in one plate.

The serving size is American size which made the meal even more exciting. For only 155php, this meal will do just fine for two individuals. The other person can just order for an extra rice.

Big Serving of Mixed Seafood for only 155php.

2. Mixed Seafood: Composed of 3 pieces medium sized grilled prawns, 2 pieces lightly grilled squid and 2 fried, battered fish fillet (cream dory) served in plain rice. This meal is one of their pricey meals here in 50s Diners.

Same with Gangsta Gangsta, this meal is good for sharing. It doesn’t have a unique sawsawan though. Just the typical soysauce-calamansi-sili.

Yes, You & I is just 110php.
3.      You & I: This meal caught my attention mainly because of the way it’s called, You & I.  You & I is composed of deep-fried breaded ground beef and ground chicken ala croquet. The tartar and mayo sauce perfectly complimented the meat. Meat lovers would definitely enjoy this meal.

Taste of food is nothing extraordinary. But their meals are very sulit. Perhaps, that is the reason why this restaurant is being flocked by tourists and locals alike.

Chilling cheers from Baguio,
Vhie
